  • Okay. Minotaur = part man, part bull. Gyroplane = part helicopter, part plane. Michael Jackson = ...? Back to what we know, Groen Brothers Aviation makes gyroplanes -- also known as autogyros or gyrocopters -- which derive lift from freely-turning rotary blades and thrust from a propeller. The company's first gyroplane, the 4-seater Hawk 4, is undergoing testing for FAA certification. Since gyrocopters must have forward motion to maintain lift, they are incapable of hovering in place: the Hawk 4 must maintain at least 46 mph; top speed is about 150 mph.
