  • Southwest Endocrine grew out of a solo endocrinology practice established in 1975. Dr. Strader had been Chief of Endocrine and Nuclear Medicine at William Beaumont Army Hospital and resigned in 1972. Dwight M Deter joined the practice as one of the first certified Physician Assistants in 1976. In 1981, the practice recruited another endocrinologist, Robert L. Young, M.D., who had just retired as Chief of Endocrinology at Wilford Hall Air Force Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. They formed Southwest Endocrine Consultants. El Paso Nuclear Medicine also was established to include nuclear medicine interpretations and other services. In 1993, Dr. Gerald
