Job Description

We are a successful technology consulting firm providing IT services to businesses throughout the Greater Boston area. We have a position open for a Systems Engineer who has strong experience with networking including firewalls and is willing to travel to client sites ~50% or more. This position would involve being a Tier 2 escalation point for our helpdesk team and junior field engineers, and direct responsibility for T2/3 dispatches to clients.

Based out of our Newton office, our team provides exceptional customer service to a wide range of clients located in and around the Greater Boston area. Our senior engineers are an integral part of our team at ArcLight and are exposed to complex challenges with workstations, servers, cloud environments, networking configurations, email, and much more. Required Attributes

  • Solid customer service skills, both over the phone and in person.
  • Positive attitude and approach to technical issues and challenges, as well as client interactions
  • Strong networking experience with a variety of vendor equipment (primarily Cisco, Fortigate, Meraki, Unifi/Ubiquiti, but occasionally Sonicwall and other vendors will crop up.)
  • CCENT, CCNA, Net+, or similar networking cert., OR equivalent experience and demonstration of deep networking knowledge during interview.
  • Ability to walk into an environment with a network problem and troubleshoot it solo (though there is a team backing you up as needed).
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting firewall rules, WiFi networks, DHCP/DNS, VLANs, trunking, SSL and IPSec VPNs both user/dial-up and site to site.
  • Ability to crimp/terminate Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet cables, as well as punching down to patch panels and wall jacks.
  • Experience pulling cable is a big plus, but not required. 
  • Experience with managing and/or basic troubleshooting of VoIP systems
  • Ability and willingness to troubleshoot Tier 2+ server and workstation issues
  • Understanding of server and workstation hardware, ability to swap out components, RAM, etc.
  • Documentation skills including network/infrastructure drawings (Visio, Draw.io, etc.)

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 - 2019, including: Active Directory, RDS, published apps, file services and print services.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting Windows 7-10 desktop OS and common office applications. Eg: MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Quickbooks, Dropbox, etc.
  • Experience with Exchange on-prem and hosted mail services including O365 and Google
  • SQL experience is a plus
  • Assisting in the on-boarding of new clients, including analyzing and documenting their existing networks, recommending upgrade paths, and making the most of existing hardware.

Other Requirements

  • Reliable car for transportation (we reimburse for mileage)
  • Ability to climb a ladder to install/troubleshoot WiFi APs in drop ceilings
  • Ability to lift 50-75 lbs; we often have to deliver servers and other hardware.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with available shifts of 7am - 4pm, 8am - 5pm, or 9am - 6pm.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
