Child Development Lab- Teacher

Berea College is seeking a Teacher for the Child Development Lab. The Teacher is responsible for organizing and maintaining a safe and stimulating classroom environment for young children. Teachers are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a daily schedule of activities appropriate for young children and for working in collaboration with assistant teachers, families, and college students to accomplish these tasks. Teachers are expected to adhere to the CDL program philosophy, state childcare guidelines and college/program policies and procedures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES •Organize and maintain a safe, clutter-free, and stimulating learning environment appropriate for children of diverse ages and ability levels. •Plan, implement, and evaluate a daily schedule of activities appropriate for young children. •Work collaboratively with families, assistant teachers, and college students. •Practice open, respectful communication with families, co-workers, and supervisors at all times. •Utilize positive guidance strategies and agreed upon approaches (e.g., “I Care” program). •Plan, implement, and evaluate activities to involve families in the daily life of the classroom. •Meet regularly to develop weekly classroom plans and appropriate curriculum and to confer about classroom issues and concerns. •Keep up to date records on attendance, accidents, incidents, etc., in accordance with licensing guidelines and program policies. •Maintain a file of information on each child that includes copies of required documents and ongoing notes and work samples as a record of the child’s development and behavior. •Participate in providing constructive feedback to co-workers and college labor students through established feedback circles and labor program procedures respectively. •Perform housekeeping tasks as necessary, as assigned, and in a timely manner (classroom and indoor and outdoor shared play spaces). •Attend conferences, in-services, and workshops in order to develop professionally. •Attend scheduled staff meetings and required college training and orientation meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor’s Degree (Consideration given to candidates with CDA credential AND 3 or more year’s exemplary experience in a licensed childcare setting) •Prefer two years related experience (paid and/or supervised experience in child care or early childhood education classroom, preferred) •Knowledge of child development and early childhood curriculum and methods •Knowledge of state child care guidelines •Ability to organize and maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment appropriate for young children •Skills in communicating with families •Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and to support the growth of college students •Emotional stability to make sound decisions and remain calm during a crisis
