Research Associate

Cannon Research Group, a Republican opposition research firm specializing in corporate and political research is seeking a Research Associate. The firm handles a variety of projects including investigations into corporate behavior in the public space, major campaign opposition research books, and individual background reviews.

The ideal associate would work on a variety of projects and tasks for the firm ranging from helping prepare records requests to drafting memoranda and research report sections. The best candidates are intelligent and curious readers who ask probing questions about the materials they review.

The candidate must be detail oriented, capable of tolerating reviewing large amounts of seemingly meaningless material for the important gems, and be able to write well. The candidate does not necessarily need to write poetically, but their writing should be clear and focused. Prior research experience is helpful but not necessarily required. There is some “scut” work involved in the job, but nothing the principal has not done himself.

An understanding of public policy and political issues, particularly those which are problematic for candidates, is required. An eye for research - and more importantly enjoying conducting research – is crucial. The candidate should want to do oppo work.

Salary would be in the high 40s per year. This is a permanent full time position located in the beautiful Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis, Maryland open immediately. The position could be a good fit for an entry level campaign staffer or legislative staffer looking to leave the Hill or campaign staff coming off a race looking to work on research.
