Job Description IT Specialist Data Network Design Engineer

Position Description
The role will include network data transport project implementation and operational support. The individual must have recent experience with designing and maintaining large facilities level multiple building, datacenter, MDF, IDF, and network transport design. They must have a deep understanding of core network infrastructure, workplace network distribution, campus level building-to building data transport, and metro WAN design concepts.

The candidate must be technically proficient with network infrastructure equipment including: switches, routers, firewalls, VoIP, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. They must understand WAN interconnectivity, circuit technologies, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, Layer 3 switching) and hardware support including Cisco Nexus 7K, 6500, 4500 & 3850, 3750 switches, and Wireless Access. They must be highly skilled with IP networks, subnets, routing, Voice PBX, VoIP, DNS, DHCP technologies. They must have ability to manage and implement medium to large sized projects, develop documentation, and providing as-built documentation for data transport and datacenter network layouts.

They will also need to have a good understanding of WinTel, open systems and storage network sub-systems.

They must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

The position will be required to define requirements and design data transport specifications for network technology projects. The individual will need to demonstrate a working history of collaboration with Business, Applications, Systems, Storage, DBA, and Cybersecurity teams for solutions development.

The client is a defense contractor so familiarity DISA and an existing DOD Security Clearance is preferable.



Your future duties and responsibilities
The selected candidate will work across from Project Managers, Network, Applications, Systems, Storage, DBA, and Cybersecurity teams to develop and implement solutions that fit with the client’s needs as well security requirements.

The selected candidate will work across projects and operations, but with a primary focus on technology projects and part of a project’s team that includes Architectural, Systems, Datacenter, and Connectivity Design responsibilities.



Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Minimum of 8 years’ experience with WAN, LAN, and Data Transport systems including:
MPLS, T1, and PRI Circuits
Cisco VoIP systems and legacy PBX Switches
ISDN, Video and Teleconference systems
Cisco Technology Switches
Cisco Wireless Controllers and Access Points

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Four-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Two-year degree or technology program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Two or more of the following certifications:
A+ Certified
Net+ Certified
Security+
Microsoft MCP in a current Microsoft supported OS
Microsoft MTA
Redhat RHCSA
ITIL v3 Foundations
