Job Description Network Solution Architect

Position Description
The CGI Network Solution Architect designs, implements and maintenances complex network solutions for multiple customers, Public/Community/Private Cloud and remote locations. Ensures optimal design, operation, interoperability and performance of network related hardware and software including routers, switches, network servers, and network security. The position requires the ability to provide direction to network engineering teams as well as being able to articulate the benefits, risks, and tradeoffs between solutions to non-technical technical audiences including customers and executives to come up with cost effective solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements at the most cost effective price point. CGI’s looking to embrace software defined networking (SDN) and this individual will need to develop and prototype a design that works and can be secured. The individual will need to learn CGI’s award winning Risk and Cost Driven Architecture framework leveraged to achieve these results. This position will also be responsible for working with CGI delivery managers to scope, develop, solution, and price new CGI offerings.


Your future duties and responsibilities
• Strong technical depth across networking technology areas -- depth in several areas, and breadth and interest across a much larger range

• Look at optimizing the current network through thoughtful changes in the current architecture and design.

• Provide technical leadership to account delivery teams, as well as customer business leaders

• Troubleshoot technical issues, especially recurring problems impacting production applications

• Experience building prototypes, pilots, or full products in cloud environments

• Experience with architecture modeling practices

• Design, document, and maintain architecture diagrams for systems, processes, and interfaces

• Designs cost models and architecture infrastructure solutions for technical projects/applications

• CGI is a company of builders and candidates for this position must be doers who build and drive solutions. Candidates should not be evangelists who discuss solutions, but are divorced from actual implementation

• Own the end-to-end technical design for initiatives in close partnership with the client and CGI operational teams

• Serve as the primary technical architecture contact with clients and act as mentor or resource for colleagues with less experience

• Manage at the project/task level (as needed) to provide specific guidance for operations personnel on technical projects, design and implementation

• Identify and define standards, deliverables, work products, and project procedures

• Identify technical solutions to resolve technical Network, OS, DB, and platform problems

• Develop and maintain client relationships

• Continuously evaluate architectures against emerging technology trends or business growth areas and target areas of opportunity to ensure performance and capacity exceed demand

• Apply and integrate emerging technology trends to new and existing systems architecture

• Ensure technology solutions are designed, developed, and implemented to meet business needs

• Assists in the planning and design of new or upgraded systems. Work with CGI operational teams to implement process improvements, system upgrades, and infrastructure (firmware) upgrades

• Facilitate automation deployments (e.g. IPcenter) to reduce manual processes and improve efficiencies across systems and data centers

• Ensure technologies and processes are simple, standard, and integrated

Candidates should possess breath of knowledge across infrastructure disciplines including server hardware, networking, security, databases, and storage but will be the domain expert for more detailed questions networking.



Required qualifications to be successful in this role
The candidate should possess troubleshooting skills to asset in root cause analysis and in proposing adjustments to solutions when they may fail to meet customer expectations. Candidates can either work at home, the Sterling, VA or Tempe, AZ offices with ability to do limited travel (a few trips per year).

Candidates should possess breath of knowledge across infrastructure disciplines including server hardware, networking, security, databases, and storage but will be the domain expert for more detailed questions networking.

• 5+ years of relevant architecture experience


• Experience in developing cost effective, dynamic networks with infrastructure redundancy, and network link diversity to ensure high availability and disaster recovery

• Experience architecting complex, scalable and secure networks for infrastructure modernization efforts

• Experience troubleshooting technical issues with operations and client architect/system administrators and drive problem resolution from problem identification through change mgmt/corrective action(s)

• Solid understanding of advanced networking technologies, virtualization technologies, and solutions including MPLS, Virtual Route Forwarding, virtual device contexts, multicast routing, policy-based routing, ether-channel, QoS, traffic-shaping, load balancing, VPN tunnels, WAN Optimization, load balancing etc.

• Performance analysis experience

• Understanding of advanced data center networking equipment including Nexus 9K/7K/5K, FortiNet firewalls, Cisco ASA, Cisco ACI, and Palo Alto.

• Basic knowledge of DNS, Active Directory and other Identity Management and Directory Services implementations

• Exceptional documentation skills that can clearly articulate technical designs, issues and constraints, procedures, and network assessments

• Ability to facilitate technical working sessions

• Deep comprehension of networking concepts including network design principles, data flow determination, routing, switching, VLANs, IP addressing, etc.

• Experience and understanding of newer network technologies like Spine and Leaf, SDN, NSX

• 10+ years of Network engineering services experience preferably in Managed Services

• Excellent Client facing skills with the ability to capture the audience and sell the solution

• Familiarity with network tools for readiness assessment and advanced troubleshooting

• Ability to understand customer pain points, requirements and translate these into a winning solution

• Experience with enterprise class network management/monitoring systems is desired

• Solid understanding of layered network and security protocols including: Layer 2 - Ethernet, ARP, STP, VTP, VPC, MEC, LACP, PAGP, DOT1Q-Layer 3 - OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, DMVPN, VRRP, HSRP, GLBP, ICMP, ESP (IPSEC), IP - Layer 4 - TCP, UDP - Layer 6 - SSL, TLS, SSH - Layer 7 - FTP, HTTP, DNS, Telnet, SSH, BGP

• Industry frameworks and methodologies such as ITIL

• BS/MS in technical field of study such as engineering or computer science
