Job Summary

The Senior Operations Database Administrator (DBA) focuses on overall administration of database environments and database management system (DBMS) software infrastructure to support live production applications. This position ensures a smooth transition from development to production of all related ongoing operational requirements.

The Data Management and Middleware Services (DMMS) Team is seeking professionals who are analytical, dedicated and innovative team players. Central Responsibilities

• install, configure and maintain all supported DBMS software (Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server) for an HA (High Availability) environment

• upgrade existing databases (for example, from MS SQL server 2008 to 2016, or Oracle 11g to 12c)

• Patch existing database based on venders’ recommendation

• Monitor all databases with monitoring tools such as EMGrid, Heroix or SCOM. Configure monitor criteria and notification.

• Lead resolution of database-related technical issues (for example, lead and coordinate database recovery in the event of a system failure)

• implement and review backup and recovery strategy to ensure that business service-level agreements are met

• ensure optimization of resource usage to increase throughput and minimize contention

o tune the operating system, network and transaction processors to work with the DBMS

o ensure appropriate storage for the relational database management system (RDBMS)

o enable the DBMS to work with storage devices and storage management software (storage area network (SAN) technology)

o interface with any other technologies required by applications

• conduct database security administration (to ensure that data are available only to authorized users)

• Work with data modelers to build database schema, tables, procedures and permissions

• ensure data consistency by adhering to data model standards and best practices

• manage schema objects and perform production migrations

• Administer database networking (Oracle Net, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), etc.)

• carry out database performance tuning and analysis. Analyze and monitor system performance to identify major performance bottlenecks in the system and identify the impact of administration tasks on core business scenarios

• initiate and participate in studies and exploratory analyses on database technology evolution and strategic opportunities

• provide long-term strategic thinking and analysis to ensure proper capacity planning

• provide recommendations/decisions within architectural standards for development activities related to area of expertise

• identify, monitor and document technology-specific database standards

• knowledge of Microsoft SQL mirroring and clustering, SUN cluster

• take an active role in training and knowledge sharing among co-workers

• collaborate with development DBAs to coordinate database migration activities and disaster recovery testing, and enhance disaster recovery procedures

• provide on-call support on a rotational basis



Key Requirements

• completed bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent degree

and

• minimum of five years of experience within the last seven years, as a Database Administrator for Oracle version 11g or higher and SQL Server 2008 or higher

• minimum of three years of experience participating in projects ranging from six months to three years in duration

in addition:

• English essential

• implementation experience with Oracle Database and Data Guard software in a production Unix environment, including database connectivity and other third-party vendor solutions

• ability to work on call and/or overtime, work on multiple concurrent projects, support high-visibility applications, work under stressful conditions, organize workload to accommodate changing priorities while still meeting deadlines, maintain a high level of accuracy and ensure proper follow-through

• experience creating and editing stored procedures

• Knowledge of LEAN and AGILE development methodologies

• MS Certified Solutions Associate

• knowledge of Oracle RAC or GoldenGate
