Job Description Sr. Test Engineer

Position Description
Sr. Test Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with internal and external IT teams such as the application architect, senior developers, senior testers and management on testing approach for end to end small to medium scale projects successfully to production on schedule with guidance from management. Will be responsible for the quality assurance stage of software development for VA programs. They will establish a process for evaluating hardware and deployment methods, document this process, and assist in the evaluation of these components. They will need experience in assessing code and will conduct automated and manual tests to ensure the software is fit for purpose. Will serve as the subject matter specialist will provide testing know-how for the support of user requirements of complex software/hardware.


Your future duties and responsibilities
• This job is required to deliver agile and fast-paced enhancements to the FACETS application in support of the VA User Epics.
• Candidate needs to be able to make independent decisions on application functional testing analysis to support their assigned projects.
• For projects involving major architectural changes or adoption of new software products, they will be required to consult senior members of the team, business users and business analysts and management as necessary to ensure all requirements and design reviewed.
• Lead creation and development of test plans.
• Gather requirements.
• Understanding of master software requirements.
• Advise and oversee testers and work as SME for testing team with feedback on design reviews for multiple, small to medium-scale, concurrent application or infrastructure projects for mission/business-critical applications.
• Assist application testers and senior developers in execution of new technology as SME, developing test cases on requirements, defect management and interpreting design documents for functional enhancements and support delivery implementation to production.
• Provide input and add efficiency in order to improve the testing process.
• Work with operations teams on production migration of application enhancements and successful deployment and delivery of all application functionality to production platforms.
• Design regression testing processes.
• Execute regression testing, bug and patch testing.

Assist in troubleshoot issues related to:
• Bug tracking.
• Connectivity/code builds.
• Interfaces to internal and external IT systems.
• Functional issues by providing test evidence for root cause analysis to be completed by development.
• Support implementation of these solutions through testing of code and/or configuration changes within deadlines
• Coordinate/participate production implementation assignments for testing

Complete necessary administrative items:
• Training, time sheets.
• Performance agreements.
• Participate in staff meetings.
• Provide statuses to management



Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• Software or Systems Integration and Test experience
• Knowledge of the Software Lifecycle
• Understanding of the Agile methodology
• Bachelors degree desired. Experience (8+ years) may be used in lieu of degree.
• Experience/Understanding of test plans, test schedule, and approach.
• Experience/Understanding of writing test cases, scripts and identifying data for test scenarios.
