Position Description
CGI currently has a requirement for a Systems Administrator (VMWare) for an exciting opportunity in the Ottawa area. The Systems Administrator—VMware Infrastructure position is responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance and improvement of our client's Virtual Machine infrastructure platform. This position is responsible for technical support, planning, coordination and administration, including associated storage systems. This position provides support in performance monitoring, tuning, capacity planning and prediction in the coordination and implementation of releases or changes to the operating system, storage hardware/software and the range of products that support the development, testing and production environments.

The position is also responsible for systems maintenance and plans and implements major software upgrades, as well as ensuring that change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed.

This position works closely with the other server teams and the storage and network infrastructure groups to ensure the highest level of availability of systems support to the client's population.



Your future duties and responsibilities
Your future responsibilities
• as part of Operations and projects, participate in all phases of the development methodology cycle to implement the required information technology (IT) solutions to meet business requirements
• provide support, including on-call, shift and/or weekend work, as required, for systems within area of expertise; monitor performance of systems and service agreements to ensure that ongoing service delivery standards, service levels and IT policies are met
• analyze system needs; perform process re-engineering, operations management and research
• analyze diagnostic information about uncommon cross-functional problems or issues and provide recommendations for resolution to more-senior colleagues or management; work autonomously to resolve complex problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing and communicating issues of technology impact on the function/corporate level
• provide IT advice to management and colleagues on the appropriate direction, evolution and usage of technology (architectures, systems, issues, opportunities, policies and standards) related to field of expertise
• develop and adhere to IT standards and guidelines for technology support and administration
• develop and maintain collaborative relations with internal and external counterparts (partners, clients and suppliers) to support operational objectives



Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Your education and experience
• university degree in computer science or equivalent experience
• a minimum of three years of experience implementing and managing vSphere infrastructure platform, and recent experience working with vSphere 6.x
• three or more years supporting critical high availability and disaster recovery server environments
• three or more years of experience with Windows 2008/2012 Server infrastructure (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File and Print)

or

• an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Your knowledge and skills
• experience in server virtualization implementation and support via VMware ESXi and VDI
• experience deploying and supporting vSphere 6 environments
• demonstrated technical understanding of VMware vCloud Suite, Horizon View and vRealize
• demonstrated technical understanding of Windows, storage platforms and internetworking architectures, as well as web computing architectures
• working knowledge of Windows tiered application support (IIS, ASP, SQL), and scripting language (PowerShell, VBScript)
• experience in performance and capacity planning

Assets
• experience with VMware PowerCLI and PowerShell scripting and automation
• experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
• knowledge of virtual distributed switch topologies
• industry certification (e.g., VCA, VCP, VCIX, ITIL)
• basic knowledge of Linux Red Hat
• ability to communicate effectively in both official languages


Additional information
• Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
• Must be eligible for secret clearance
• English (mandatory) or French (asset)
• There will be no relocation assistance provided
