Small, independent private school (grades K-8) in East Bay/Tri-Valley Area seeks a dedicated, well-educated teacher who can double as a head of school in training (1-2 years). 

The student environment is unlike traditional classrooms.  Students work individually at desks, small-group tables, and seminar tables.  Teachers never work alone, but in team groups.  Head teachers have at least two hours per day of non-teaching time to fulfill their management and preparation duties, which include responsibility for the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of academic and other student development. 

In addition to teaching, the future administrator will learn about enrollment, parent relations, staffing, financial management, and general management.  There are 10-15 teachers to be managed.  In addition to promoting academic excellence, the school emphasizes foreign languages, the arts, writing, and ethical behavior.   

This position requires an energetic, idealistic, and competent individual, with at least five years of teaching experience and, preferably, a master’s degree.  Especially important character traits include an entrepreneurial approach to work, a positive attitude toward innovation, and a deep belief in our ability to find ways to improve we are doing in the fields of education and human (including parent) development.  Experience in education incorporating esthetic and spiritual values, such as Montessori and Waldorf, are highly valued.   

Compensation and benefits are modest by Silicon Valley standards, but competitive for schools.  They include a salary, with vacation, sick, medical, dental, retirement, and many other benefits, such as sabbaticals and a discount on child care and education.  It is expected that applicants will either live in the San Francisco Bay Area or already planning to relocate to the area.  We do not reimburse travel or relocation expenses.
