The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the Technical Trainer opportunity, you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Construction, Building, Civil Engineering, Science or another relevant field or the equivalent preferred 
  • 5 years of experience in a technical building or construction industry position requiring direct customer interaction.   • An unwavering commitment to safety.
  • Polished presentation skills; the ability to train others. 
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD combined with the ability to read blueprints.
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office applications, particularly PowerPoint, to customize training to individual audiences, Excel and Word.  
  • Knowledge of home construction and construction job sites is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

The Role

Opportunity Overview
Reporting to the Sales Manager, as Technical Trainer, you will take on a wide array of responsibilities, the most prominent of which is to provide training and technical expertise to DECRA sales teams, including Regional Account Managers and Field Sales Representatives, as well as customers, including distributors, contractors and installers.

You will be strategically based in a location with a strong customer and end-user base, where you'll do a good deal of the training. Additionally, you will travel within your assigned region as needed to support Sales and customers. 

You will join the Roof Tile Group which has an aggressive, focused growth strategy for North and South America. Key to that growth is securing of specifications from both the private and government sectors. Our Sales and Marketing teams are actively pursuing new business and you will contribute technical and installation expertise to enhance the teams' competency level, thereby further building market confidence and adding to our competitive edge.  

Role Details 
You will work closely with the Sales Manager and other internal stakeholders, including Sales and Marketing Managers, the Specifications Manager, Sales Admin, Customer Service and Supply Chain, as well as external customers and contacts, including specifiers architects, distributors, installers and contractors. While each of the internal stakeholders will focus on their areas of expertise, you'll support them as the roofing products and installation SME.Your key accountabilities will include:
  • Providing product technical, material takeoffs and installation expertise to the Sales and Marketing teams and our customers
  • Delivering initial and ongoing installation training to ensure a skilled installer base in the market and knowledgeable sales staff in order to create ideal conditions for market growth
  • Providing post-training follow-up and job specific solutions.

Specifically, you will:
  • Conduct effective product and installation training by:
    • Providing accurate and timely delivery of technical and installation knowledge
    • Providing technical guidance and training around compliance and installation standards
    • Sharing knowledge in response to customer inquiries
    • Being aware of your audience; developing and maintaining rapport with participants, thinking on your feet, adjusting as necessary
    • Completing training sessions for each assigned staff member
  • Establish a Technical Library in the Marketing folder to share the relevant technical resources, ensuring resources are current and updated (CAROT - concise, accurate, relevant, objective, timely)
  • Investigate customer complaints and be bold in problem-solving; drive positive customer survey results
  • Provide accurate and timely takeoffs to Sales and Marketing as well as customers
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and standards and actively participate in health & safety programs
  • Assist with sales follow up and warranty issues, when necessary
  • Provide pricing support and follow-up
  • Support Sales with presentations by providing technical support in person and via phone, email, conferencing, etc.
  • Contribute ideas and technical guidance in the development of advertising and marketing promotions
  • Contribute knowledge and technical support to roofing system components and green initiatives, including new product development and testing

To be successful in the role of Technical Trainer for our roofing systems, you will need a strong mix of hard and soft skills. Naturally, you'll need a knack for the technical and strong learning acumen to become expert in our products and installation techniques, but just as important will be your flexibility and adaptability as you bend and grow with the demands and opportunities of the job. You should be equally comfortable adapting to the needs of a growing team as you are adjusting to the intricacies and uniqueness of each audience. For example, we do have training modules to leverage, but with a range of audiences and varied expertise, you'll find you're more often customizing your presentations to meet audience demand. A small group of 4 or 5 will also require a different experience than a large group of 40 or 50 trainees. You should be able to inform, impress and excite stakeholders from individual installers to corporate. Deep knowledge, presentation polish and creativity will all serve you well.
