HR Generalist

Summary
Performs HR-related duties on a professional level. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, payroll, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Conducts full-life cycle recruiting including sourcing, screening, interviewing and hiring.
- Facilitates new hire orientation process.
- Initiates background checks and drug screens for new hires.
- Creates new hire/ promotion announcements.
- Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans. Reviews benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process. Verifies benefit billing accuracy for payment.
- Administers COBRA for group health plans.
- Maintains HR ADP HRIS data base and employee personnel files.
- Identifies, develops and delivers HR specific presentations for training of personnel.
- Assists in developing and revising HR policies and procedures.
- Helps create and distribute the company’s quarterly newsletter.
- Distributes and monitors employee performance evaluations and ensures they are completed.
- Manages and tracks employee disciplinary action.
- Coaches, counsels and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions.
- Assists managers in the development of performance improvement plan for necessary employees.
- Monitors tardy and absenteeism reports and ensures proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems. Reports vacation, sick, personal day and holiday use to payroll and scheduling.
- Processes payroll for non-exempt staff. Audits timecards and edits employee payroll information.
- Maintains and processes all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges.
- Reports, maintains and monitors all workers' compensation case files.
- Provides reporting and analysis support to the Vice President and department managers as needed.
- Maintains organizational charts, directory, phone lists and employee bulletin board.
- Develops and plans special events for the company.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
- Performs other tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Bachelors Degree with at least 2 years of experience. Professional in Human Resources certificate (PHR) preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write complex correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office, Excel, e-mail and internet functions.

Pay Range
The HR Generalist is an exempt position that is paid semimonthly. Pay rate will be dependent on a number of factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience.
