POSITION TITLE:
TEACHER, DIRECTOR THEATRE - MIDDLE SCHOOL (2018-2019)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in education including course work in the subject/program to which assigned and in curriculum and instructional methodology; Master's Degree preferred
• Teaching experience required
• Appropriate teaching certification issued by Texas Education Agency required
• Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty required
• Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development or, if applicable, adult learning theory
• Proven ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs required
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students required
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
• Excellent communication skills both orally and written required
• Ability to demonstrate proper acting techniques in a variety of genres is preferred; some knowledge of technical theatre is required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed generally in a classroom environment and other locations within and outside the school building such as cafeteria, auditorium, theatre black box, etc. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing 40 pounds or less, such as books, papers, instructional supplies, and theatrical props. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. Must be able to handle stressful situations and meet deadlines.

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

The Theatre Director will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The incumbent will also manage student behaviors, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify/control instructional activities as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, implement, monitor and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, practices, and exhibitions
• Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
• Assess student abilities and achievement as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
• Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
• Assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours and in compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and Extracurricular Handbook
• Participate in staff development, in-service activities and staff meetings including meetings with the Director of Fine Arts or Coordinator of Fine Arts
• Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
• Communicate regularly with students on instructional expectations keeping them informed of their progress
• Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is beneficial, healthful, safe and conducive to learning while ensuring materials are accessible to students and in good condition
• Understand and uphold all rules, regulations and dates that pertain to the instructional programs including UIL, TETA, and FBISD policies
• Guide and monitor all extracurricular activities as required by established guidelines and ensure all activities sponsored by such groups reflect positively on the school district, campus and instructional program
• Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for all extracurricular activities
• Support and assist feeder programs by attending shows and offering reasonable assistance to these programs
• Participate in all UIL and FBISD sponsored events; encourage student participation in all competitions/events related to the instructional program (International Thespian Society, etc.)
• Schedule and conduct at least two public performances or shows on campus each semester
• Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area
• Comply with all established policies and procedures related to the instructional program; submit all required forms, fees, and electronic documents by the prescribed deadlines
• Monitor the placement of all potential students within the instructional program; submit class rosters to the principal or principal's designee prior to the specified campus deadline
• In conjunction with campus custodial staff, and FBISD Operations, monitor the use of and facilitate all performances in the school's auditorium or stage; maintain the school auditorium's sound system and lighting system in working order; monitor the safety, upkeep, and repair of stage rigging and equipment in the school's auditorium of stage; issue work order requests to the principal or principal's designee for required auditorium maintenance, service, or repairs
• Maintain a current inventory of all fine arts equipment, instructional materials, and costumes in the specified materials management system
• Conduct practices outside the academic school day to provide adequate preparation for performances and shows in compliance with UIL rules and regulations and established guidelines
• Guide all booster club activities as policies and procedures require and insure all activities sponsored by such groups reflect positively on the school district, campus, and instructional program
• Manage the collection, receipt, and deposit of all student fees and fund-raising proceeds; comply with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding the implementation of fund-raising activities, as well as the deposit and expenditure of all funds
• Perform other duties as assigned
