Additional Technology Information: 
The Research and Development Department is looking to add several Data Scientists to drive strategic projects forward. These associates will be responsible for ensuring the right mathematical techniques are applied to a wide range of projects across the Enterprise: Research and Development, Internet of Things, Video Analytics, Kroger Technology, Merchandising, Operations, Human Resources, etc. Successful associates enjoy and thrive in developing solutions in machine learning, artificial intelligence, simulation, optimization, forecasting, data mining, statistics, deep learning, buzzword, buzzword, etc. Multiple skill and experience levels are being considered for these roles.

 

Position Summary:

This position will determine the appropriate operations research technique to validate process improvement recommendations for the business. This role will be responsible for creating detailed analysis, operational recommendations and decision support tools through intense mathematical analysis, collaboration with subject matter experts, model design and development in order to maximize the benefit to The Kroger Co. Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform gap analysis and identify process improvement needs.
  • Lead analysis from problem definition through implementation and control.
  • Understand and translate operational complexities.
  • Design and develop models to visualize the problem.
  • Lead in the creation of measurement systems to track project success and goal attainment.
  • Determine the appropriate tools and methodologies to effectively and efficiently lead problem-solving sessions for the teams, as needed, throughout the enterprise.
  • Test possible solutions utilizing operations research tools and techniques.
  • Plan, perform and evaluate experimental operational experiments where appropriate.
  • Draw conclusions from previous tests in order to create new hypotheses.
  • Publish findings and recommendations to project team, management and operations research peers.
  • Participate in the approval of project closures and formal transition to the process owners.
  • Key contributor in the process improvement engineering activities within a cross-functional design team. Collaborate in developing sustainable processes and solutions that drive manufacturing, supply chain and in-store efficiencies, eliminate non-value-added activities and enhance our internal and external Customer experience.
  • Consult with subject-matter experts to develop potential business and technology solutions; advise on impact to business processes.
  • Collaboratively develop plans to implement suggested improvements and confirm the plans are realized.
  • Establish and maintain relationships throughout the enterprise with division associates, manufacturing, vendors, logistics, and store-level personnel to understand, document and define business strategies and processes.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • 4 years in a quantitative field with at least two years' experience practicing diverse set of operations research tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, balanced by the ability to apply common sense.
  • Effective organization skills and solid team background maintained through effective communication skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor peers in operations research discipline.
Desired Previous Job Experience:
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering/Sciences/Quantitative discipline.
  • Master's Degree, MS degree in Engineering/Sciences/Quantitative discipline or equivalent.
  • Experience leading others in effective use of operations research.
