DESCRIPTION

The Lane County Public Health Maternal & Child Health programs function to ensure that mothers and babies are healthy in Lane County. The MCH program provides education and support for women with social or health concerns during pregnancy and after the birth of their child.
 
This position will work in the Public Health Maternal & Child Health home visiting program. This program delivers case management, education, and support for low income, at risk, pregnant women and young children who meet the qualifications for enrollment in Maternity Case Management, Babies First, CaCoon and other home visiting programs.
 
One of the essential functions of this position is to travel within Lane County (occasionally outside Lane County) to complete scheduled home visit appointments in a timely manner.

To provide a variety of professional population-focused community and public health nursing services in health promotion, prevention and disease control programs; and to perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilizing independent judgment, assesses, plans and evaluates individual, family and community health needs.

Plans and implements general public or community health nursing service in an assigned geographic area of responsibility or special program.

Plans and directs clinics or special programs with clinics.

Arranges or conducts health classes or group meetings with teachers, school nurses, parents, industrial groups and expectant parents.

Performs home or office visits explaining basic concepts of
prevention of disease and promotion of mental and physical health.

Assists families in understanding health needs and methods of meeting needs through education, direct service and referral to appropriate health resources.

Plans and exchanges information with physicians and other health workers for more effective care of the individual patient.

Organizes and coordinates the development of community organization and planning for health services with community groups.

Schedules visits with school administrators and teachers in a district and assists them in identifying health problems and interpreting medical reports and recommendations.

Confers with pupils, teachers, administrators, school nurses, parents and physicians on specific health problems.

Participates in conferences with other disciplines and agencies to coordinate services and plan joint action.

Maintains records for nursing services to families, schools & clinics & makes reports as required.

Organizes, trains and supervises volunteer workers.

Provides public and community health nursing services in special settings such as hospital coordination, disease investigations and mental health and drug programs.

Dispenses medication under standing orders of a physician and supervises and monitors its effects on a patient.

Collects laboratory samples and interprets their results where applicable.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Experience and Training:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.

An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements:
• Possession of a current State of Oregon Registered Nurse license at time of appointment.
• Immunization records within 10 days of hire
• NPI
• CPR/BLS by time of hire
• Diploma

The following are preferred but not required:
• Experience in public health and/or maternal-child health services
• IBLCE certification

BILINGUAL "B"
Bilingual designation is an adjunct classification.

To assist in providing bilingual communication with Limited English Proficient (LEP) persons. Individuals in these classifications do more than self-identify; they have successfully passed a test demonstrating proficiency in both English and the other language administered by the County. The need for the use of the second language in the performance of job duties in this classification has been identified.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
In addition to the regular knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the employee's main classification, the bilingual duties of this adjunct classification may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Interpreting between English speakers and LEP persons.
• Orally translating documents
