What's in It for You

Smaller team = bigger impact
We're not the largest importer/exporter around by far, but we have a solid team and strong processes in place. If you're the person we're looking for, you see the upside: as SME you'll become an important resource, both for transactional and more strategic activities.

Professional development
We are looking for an individual who is driven to learn and grow, and we'll back that up with benefits such as educational reimbursement. In addition, we're committed to promoting from within whenever possible and it's not unusual for strong performers to move up and take on additional responsibilities at Makita.

Pride and brand recognition
Visit any construction site, and you're sure to encounter a variety of Makita tools. Our quality and performance has earned us a strongly respected reputation within the contractor community, which has persistently grown throughout our history and is certain to endure for many years to come as we continue to lead the industry with the introduction of high quality, innovative tools.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer one of the most generous benefits packages in our industry, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k), vacation time, tuition reimbursement, and more.

Pictured: demanding applications require maximum power, speed and run time, so Makita created LX2® X2 tools and power equipment powered by two 18V batteries. These products deliver maximum performance without cords, without the hassles of gas, and without leaving the 18V battery platform.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will have the leadership skills to provide insight on best practices and help others remain in compliance. A hardline "police" approach won't work here -- you'll need to be proactive about building relationships, establishing yourself as a valuable resource, and working collaboratively. Of course, if and when we are at risk of falling outside compliance, you may need to be assertive.

The role involves both strategic and tactical aspects. At a more strategic level, we'll look to you to be able to answer many questions off the top of your head, and know where to go to find the answers you don't know. On the tactical side, we use a number of manual processes, and you'll need to be willing to get hands-on to achieve goals.

You should have a strong sense of ownership and initiative. Rather than requiring step-by-step instructions, you want the autonomy to take general direction and then create and execute the plan. The outstanding Trade Compliance Specialist will understand that "urgent" and "important" aren't always the same thing, and be able to strike the right balance in taking care of both. That is, you should be able to handle the transactional piece while also moving the longer-term projects forward and continuing to evolve your role.
