MERGE is a fast-paced tech/toy company looking for an INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER with a strong knowledge and understanding of the product design process. As an Industrial Designer at MERGE, you will create products that allow people to experience the “merging of the physical and the digital” - often for the first time. You will work from concept to production on products that convey an exceptional design aesthetic and attention to detail that brings joy to the customer and creates long lasting positive feelings towards the MERGE brand.

The candidate hired for this position needs to be an expert at creating consumer products intended for mass production. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, creative and well organized self-starter with a focus on understanding and developing user-centered solutions. We are looking for a hands-on designer who will not only deliver compelling designs, but also lead by example.This Senior-level, full-time position is located along the iconic Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio, TX.

Requirements:
  • Exceptional design skills
  • Solid understanding of all phases of the design thinking process from concept, to strategic, to tactical, and manufacturing implementation
  • Ability to rapidly produce concept art, 3d prototypes and renders
  • Understanding of user needs and use cases
  • Creativity, ingenuity, and ability to apply it to existing and new product design
  • Experience consolidating information into product design briefs
  • Experience reviewing quality of final product before release to manufacturing
  • Solid technical proficiency, including preparing final design & CAD files for manufacturing
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Online portfolio with examples of fantastic designs
  • 3+ years or equivalent experience designing and shipping physical consumer products

Typical duties:
  • Work with Executive and Design teams to determine business goals and design needs and articulate that information into a product development plan
  • Create sketches and prototypes for various projects
  • Work within constraints to produce innovative products that meet objectives
  • Troubleshoot design issues with existing products and develop cost effective solutions
  • Understand and articulate industry best practices, design trends and material improvements
  • Other tasks as required
