Region 5 Buffalo, has several openings at the downtown Buffalo office.

General Duties- All positions are under the direction of a licensed Professional. Responsibilities may include:supervise, train and coordinate the work of subordinate staff, serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Engineer Trainee(Civil)/Assistant Engineer (Civil) ($55,494-$78,014) 

Highway or Structures Design- Engineer Trainee’s typical duties may include, but are not limited to: design of capital roadway or bridge projects including site investigations, preparation of engineering drawings utilizing 2D/3D CADD applications, and preparation of estimates, or may fill the role of an assistant team leader for a bridge/culvert inspection crew. Assistant Engineer’s will perform the aforementioned duties, as well as draft project reports, supervise and review the work of engineering technicians, perform quality control review of project documents prepared by others for consistency with Department standards and for constructability, and assist in public outreach, and provide construction support. 

Technical Support-coordinate geometry using InRoads, mapping in MicroStation, deed research and interpretation, along with varied other tasks involved with creating mapping deliverables and providing support to other functional groups within and outside of the Department. 

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; Civil Engineering Technology; Construction Engineering; Construction Engineering Technology; Construction Management Engineering Technology; Geotechnical Engineering; Hydraulics Engineering; Materials Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Structural Engineering; Transportation Engineering; or Transportation Planning and Engineering. OR Proof of successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

Engineering Technician ($31,971-$41,227) 

Highway Design- assist engineering and higher-level technician staff in performing field and office engineering work by performing technical duties in support of engineering activities. The duties may include, but are not limited to taking measurements, collecting and compiling data, CADD drafting of plans and details, performing or checking computations, and assisting in investigating problems. The selected candidates will be expected to use computer applications in the performance of the duties. 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. One year of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, and graduation from high school or possession of diploma issued by a recognized educational authority; or

2. 18 semester credit hours of college course work in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics; or

3. Graduation from a high school technical education program (recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting acceptable program practices and standards) in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, or electronics.

Junior Landscape Architect ($47,085-$60,028) 

Landscape/Environmental Unit-. Duties include; the preparation and review of project documents for landscape development, environmental compliance, and for pedestrian and bicycle provisions; the preparation or review of various environmental assessments and permits; the review of consultant prepared documents; attending meetings –both in the office and with the public; plant material inspection and approval; curb ramp/ sidewalk inspection and approval; And reviewing highway work permits. 

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, or a Landscape Architect’s License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.
