NASA NSPACE Education Coordinator/Stennis Space Center, Mississippi

The NASA STEM Pathway Activities-Consortium for Education office is seeking an Education Coordinator to support education activities at Stennis Space Center (SSC), MS. 

Job Summary:

NASA Educational Programs are dedicated to supporting kindergarten through post-doctorate level students, educators and education communities prepare the next generation of explorers through unique learning experiences based on NASA missions and research.  The NASA Johnson Space Center NASA STEM Pathway Activities - Consortium for Education (NSPACE) provides educators and students opportunities to engage in NASA research and missions, designed to stimulate interest in the study of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects.  The NSPACE provides educators and students access to NASA experts and equipment and opportunities to participate in unique hands-on activities that sometimes include on-site experiences.  With guidance from the NASA Lines of Business Managers and Leads within the Office of Education, this position will serve as a Project Specialist supporting the Education's four Lines of Business: Institutional Engagement, NASA Internships, Fellowships, and Scholarships (NIFS); Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); Engagement; and Educator Professional Development (EPD).  This position will be responsible for working in a team environment across the Lines of Business, identifying synergies, efficiencies, opportunities for collaboration, and areas of improvement.

This position will be based at the Stennis Space Center, MS. Work schedule is Monday-Friday; office hours to be determined, some weekend work and travel as needed. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, when moving equipment.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, or Business. 
  • Three (3) years STEM educational experience, including project management, related to NASA, military, federal, state or local government and/or in a Formal or Informal education setting.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of new local, regional, and national STEM education projects/activities.
  • Knowledge of NASA education objectives, priorities, and annual performance goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with multiple internal and external stakeholders and employees.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies to better engage and influence groups that are historically underrepresented in STEM fields.
  • Knowledge of current best practices and research in the implementation of K-16 education programs.
  • Ability to make effective use of diverse resources, including multimedia, online, and social media in the promotion and implementation of education programs.
  • Ability to implement and evaluate experiential educational activities based on current educational research and evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities at one time.
  • Energetic willingness to learn.
  • Adaptable/flexible and ability to handle multiple tasks in high pace environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer services, presentation, and interpersonal.
  • Demonstrated proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, or Business.
  • Five (5) years STEM education experience, including project management, related to NASA, military, federal, state or local government and/or in a Formal or Informal education setting.
