Position Summary:

 AIChE’s Information Technology team delivers a broad range of services, from traditional helpdesk, to development of business-critical enterprise systems, innovative web & mobile apps, insightful data analytics, and more. From leading transformational projects to sustaining production support, IT Solution Managers provide the leverage that enables our small team to have big impact.

 In this role, on one hand you will accountable for keeping-the-lights-on: ensure that existing systems & processes work well. On the other hand, you will responsible for proposing opportunities for changing the status quo, and leading change by implementing new systems and redefining services. You will provide hands-on technical leadership to a small internal team & external vendor resources and solution design & implementation leadership to business partners – shaping ideas, expectations, and adoption. Your technical acumen will be supported by equally strong Project Management and Communication skills. You will report directly to the CIO, collaborating to define vision, strategy, and high-level architecture; then drive execution with little supervision.

 Responsibilities:

Under Direction of the Chief Information Officer, the individual will implement processes, practices and programs to grow the productivity of Systems & Services, including:

  • Own the architecture, systems, processes & operations in assigned solution areas: Assure acceptable service levels; Recommend opportunities for improvement; Anticipate and plan change
  • Interface with business-function personnel related to assigned solution areas to identify opportunities and progress collaborative development, adoption and operation of IT solutions; Perform Business & Requirements analysis to produce requirements specifications
  • Plan and execute approved Projects, from initiation to closure, managing scope, time, cost, quality, communication, risk, procurement & stakeholders
  • Keep abreast of developments in the technology market in general & for assigned areas in particular; sense & synthesize innovative trends to identify and leverage solution opportunities
  • Build & maintain subject matter expertize in assigned solution areas to be able to assess & validate solution options; communicate implications to business and IT leadership; lead implementation
  • Manage & mentor assigned team, vendors & other resources
  • Perform management reporting, including periodic reporting on trends, insights, plans, risk & status
  • Perform other assigned duties in support of IT department

 Education/Qualifications: 

  • Ten or more years of progressive experience in Enterprise IT environment; bachelors degree preferred.
  • Experience with broad range of Enterprise IT project types: Upgrade vs. Migration vs. Greenfield, Big-bang vs. Phased, Packaged software vs. Custom development, Client/Server vs. Web vs. Mobile, UX vs. Data-centric, internal development vs. outsourced, etc.
  • Strong background in software development (programmed in multiple languages) or database design
  • Awareness of traditional IT management best-practices (BABOK, PMBOK, BRMiBOK, SEI CMMI, SDLC, ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF) as well as current trends (Agile, DevOps)
  • Awareness of traditional technology design/architecture topics (2/3-tier, 3NF, GoF, MoM, MDM, EAI) as well as recent trends (MVC, Microservices, Cloud native, TDD/BDD)
  • Deep interest in and curiosity about information technologies; e.g. these days one should at least be aware of what Big Data means (technically) and how Blockchain & Deep Neural Networks work
  • Technical undergraduate degree in computer science, MIS, engineering or related discipline
  • Ability to meet envisioned goals with minimum supervision
  • Time management & Prioritization – juggle multiple competing priorities
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
