The Kansas African American Museum (TKAAM0 seeks an Executive Director.  The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Museum. This is a full-time managerial position that exists to plan, administer, supervise, build support for and report on all operations of TKAAM. The Executive Director also serves as the liaison between the Museum and governmental agencies and Museum supporters, members and friends.

 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Oversee Museum operations
  2. Cultivate relationships with major stakeholders, particularly with regard to fund-raising
  3. Utilize all forms of communication to bring visitors to the Museum
  4. Plan, coordinate, and stage exhibitions and Museum educational outreach programs
  5. Collaborate with community partners
  6. Oversee the Museum budget
  7. Develop effective staff development through hiring, supervision, and training
  8. Compliance with all applicable requirements and rules, including grant obligation
  9. Serve as the “public face” of the Museum
  10. Some evening and weekend work

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution (Art History, Museum Science, Fine Arts, or Marketing major preferred)
  2. Experience in fund-raising and development (direct responsibility or involvement preferred)
  3. 5 years of significant work experience (with a Museum or not-for-profit entity/agency preferred)
  4. Demonstrated leadership ability
  5. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  6. 5 years of supervisory experience (with a Museum or not-for-profit entity/agency preferred)
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently
  8. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values, objectives and future of The Kansas African American Museum
  9. Demonstrated enthusiastic attitude and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
  10. Experience with planning of exhibitions, community events and programming (with a Museum or not-for-profit entity/agency preferred)

 

The beginning salary will be between $50,000 - $60,000 based on experience. Some benefits are provided.
