Job Description


The Rockefeller University seeks a Veteriniary Technician II to join our Comparative Bioscience Center.  The Veterinary Technician II will be responsible for vivarium room rounds, regular communication with scientists, veterinarians, and animal husbandry staff regarding daily care, administering treatments prescribed by clinical veterinarians, monitoring, documentation of all health assessments, treatments and follow-up care, on-call responsibilities for holidays and weekends, participation in training initiatives for both investigative and husbandry staff, in-depth anesthesia monitoring for both large and small animal species, active participation in and quarterly sentinel health screenings. Various minor responsibilities may also be assigned and can vary based upon personal interests, vivarium room round assignments, or departmental needs. 

The candidate should be an LVT with A.A.S. or higher in Veterinary Technology. At least one year of experience in a research facility required. Must be flexible and able to adapt to a dynamic work environment and work successfully as part of a team while working with a broad variety of species. Must be able to follow established standard operating protocols, communicate concisely and effectively, and have the ability to work independently and proactively. Must possess basic computer skills, as well as knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong skill set in anesthesia monitoring and anesthesia protocols, past experience in a fast paced, emergency/referral practice or veterinary teaching hospital, and certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (AALAS) level strongly preferred. Past experience with both large and small animal anesthesia is a plus.
