The University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice is actively seeking a faculty member for an immediate opening on the school’s Wichita campus in Wichita, KS. The Department invites applications from practitioners in all areas of pharmacy, but in particular, those with an interest and expertise in community and/or ambulatory care practice.  The successful candidate will be responsible for serving as Residency Program Director for an accredited PGY1 Community Residency Program, for establishing and providing clinical pharmacy services within a School of Pharmacy affiliated ambulatory care practice site, teaching in the didactic and experiential pharmacy practice curriculum and contributing to the mission and goals of the Department and School in each of the areas of scholarship, service and research.  The position is a 12-month full-time, clinical track (non-tenured) at the clinical assistant or associate professor level.  Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and expertise of the individuals.  The rank will be designated at the time of offer.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position and obtain licensure as a pharmacist with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of the date of hire.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a qualified candidate is selected.

Job Description:

40% Teaching: The position will be responsible for the coordination, instruction, and completion of didactic courses in the Pharmacy School curriculum for the Pharm.D. program and serve as a preceptor for pharmacy residents and pharmacy students on experiential rotations. Teaching responsibilities will primarily be within the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

20% Clinical Practice:  Provide direct patient care and develop a solid working relationship with the clinic medical team and faculty colleagues at a School of Pharmacy affiliated clinic practice site.

15% Residency Program Directorship:  The position will be required to provide oversight and work with the School of Pharmacy’s community partner to direct and facilitate the ongoing improvement and accreditation of the School’s PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program focusing on wellness initiatives and the provision of clinical pharmacy services in the community setting and the expansion of such services to affiliated community practice sites across Kansas. 

15% Research and Scholarship: Research and scholarly activity is expected of the position; however, this is not the primary focus of Clinical Track positions.  Examples of scholarship include, but are not limited to, the publication of articles, abstracts and textbook chapters; presentations at local, state and national professional meetings; and invited lectures or presentations. In addition, the position is expected to conduct practice-based research and generate funding to support this research. This support may be obtained via practice plan, direct grant or contract support for research projects conducted by the position and practice site. An area of particular research interest to the department and school is the benefit of early clinical pharmacy intervention on patient outcomes in urban and rural ambulatory practice settings.

10% Service: The position will support the Profession, University, School of Pharmacy, and Department through involvement and leadership roles with various committees and organizations such as serving on or chairing University, School of Pharmacy and Department committees, holding elected positions in professional organizations, and serving on local, state and national professional organization committees. Other responsibilities may involve serving as an adviser for pharmacy student organizations within the School and refereeing for journals, professional association meeting materials, and/or granting agencies. Lastly, clinical track positions shall serve their communities as a valued health care professional and citizen by providing community education and professional lectures.

Required Qualifications:

1) A terminal degree (PharmD or equivalent) in their field and a display of excellence in communication skills.

2) The completion of advanced training through a community or ambulatory care residency program.

3) Licensure as a pharmacist with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of date of hire is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Past experience initiating clinical pharmacy services in a community and/or ambulatory clinic environment.

2) Past experience with developing, coordinating or directing a residency program.

3) Completion of a teaching certificate program or equivalent teaching experience.   

4) Board Certification in the clinical field, i.e., BCPS, BCACP, etc.
