Waiakea Controller

Waiākea Hawaiian Volcanic Water is the first triple bottom line premium bottled water of its kind to address consumer preferences and trends with its resonating and unparalleled attributes in the areas of Health, Sustainability, and Charity.

Waiākea’s mission is to sustainably provide naturally healthy and delicious Hawaiian volcanic water, while contributing to and promoting clean water access to people in need throughout the world. Since our founding Waiākea has gone from local, self-distribution to becoming one of the most awarded and fastest growing premium bottled waters and beverages in the United States. Waiākea is now in over 7000 stores throughout the U.S. states and distributed by more than 20 distributors. Current customers include Whole Foods, Wawa, Sheetz, GetGo, Safeway, Mothers Markets, Mollie Stone, Lassens, Central Markets, Albertsons, Golds Gyms, Bikram Yoga, Hi-Health, BoteggLive Chat Help!a Louie, and hundreds of other retail, fitness, foodservice, and influencer accounts with a primary focus on the Southwest and the Natural/Specialty channel.

We are looking for energetic, positive, hardworking and outgoing applicant who wants to lead our accounting/finance department and take part in our mission and growth. The position is full-time and the candidate will report to the CFO and CEO.

Daily Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Assist with relationships with utilities, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Directly responsible for ALL company bookkeeping/accounting

Accounting

  • Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization.
  • Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Daily management and timely processing of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and reconciliation of books
  • Work with department heads to establish budgets and review them weekly/monthly.
  • Responsible for bank loan payments and financial reports to bank.
  • Responsible for Month End Close in accounting software for retail and production departments.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system and a system of controls over accounting transactions.

Budget Management

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization.
  • Support CEO and Director of Operations with data and analytics to track waste, and ROI throughout operations
  • Assess current spend vs. budget and identify any risk and/or opportunity area.
  • Work with Sales Director to implement, monitor and update wholesaler pricing strategy.

HR and Payroll Management

  • Responsible for working with Department Managers and Payroll Company to process payroll, including: computing, withholding, and accounting for all payroll deductions.
  • Liaise with Human Resources regarding compensation strategy, terminations, liabilities, benefit plans, and other HR practices.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by management and investors.
  • Prepare financial information so that outside accountants can complete annual tax returns.
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

Compliance

  • Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure. compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Skills, Attributes and Other Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related degree; Masters and CPA preferred.
  • Requires 7+ years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Advanced Excel Skills: VLookup, Pivot Tables, Macros; Other Experience with various accounting software and systems.
  • Possess critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Requires MRP software experience; experience with Netsuite preferred.
  • Prefer industry knowledge including full understanding of process flow from raw materials through shipping finished beverages.
  • High degree of accuracy, precision and attention to detail.
  • Passionate about CPG industry
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to collaborate and influence others.
  • Effective decision making skills.
