The Nuclear Waste Program (NWP) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill an Hydrogeologist Lead for 100/200 Areas and Permit (Hydrogeologist 4) position. This position is located in our Richland Field Office (RFO) in Richland, WA. The Hydrogeologist Lead for 100/200 Areas and Permit position develops and makes recommendations to the Project Managers on requirements and methods to address environmental contamination, reaching or about to reach the groundwater. The Nuclear Waste Program works in collaborative teams, providing input from various technical fields to solve very complex environmental cleanup problems. We are looking for candidates who have experience in groundwater monitoring, remediation, and groundwater permitting requirements. The applicant must be able to communicate the Program's issues and concerns to Program staff, our permittees and to stakeholders. Candidates should have sufficient experience to be able to suggest technical or regulatory approaches when issues arise. Duties

Agency Mission: Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's environment and to promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations. Program Mission: The Nuclear Waste Program's (NWP) mission is to lead the effective and efficient cleanup of the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site, ensure sound management of mixed hazardous wastes in Washington, and protect the state's air, water, and land at and adjacent to the Hanford site. The Hydrogeologist Lead for 100/200 Areas and Permit position develops and makes recommendations to the Project Managers on requirements and methods to address environmental contamination, reaching or about to reach the groundwater. The overall decisions are decisions on remediation and are made through collaborative teams, providing input from various technical fields to solve very complex environmental cleanup problems. This position provides a key role on those teams. Some of the key work activities of the Hydrogeologist Lead for 100/200 Areas and Permit include: -Reviewing and making recommendations to project managers on groundwater cleanup activities under both CERCLA and RCRA requirements. -Overseeing the implementation and performance of groundwater remediation activities. -Reviewing groundwater monitoring plans and engineering reports used to provide a technical basis for groundwater monitoring plans. -Reviewing permit conditions for permit units requiring groundwater monitoring. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree involving a major study in: hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field AND Five (5) years of professional experience as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, geologist or closely allied profession at the Hydrogeologist 2 level, higher or equivalent AND Must have a valid Washington State Geologist license and a Washington State Hydrogeologist specialty license. A Master's degree with a major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field will substitute for two (2) years of experience. A Ph.D. will substitute for three (3) years of experience if the major research was in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field. Knowledge of: physical and natural sciences related to ground/surface water quantity, quality, development, basin-wide management, and monitoring of groundwater and surface water; principles and practices of hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, well hydraulics, soils, geochemistry, meteorology, and related earth science and engineering subjects; waste disposal practices; computer sciences; well construction; field surveying techniques, instruments, and mapping; Water Code, Ground Water Quality Stan­dards, Dangerous Waste Regulations, and related departmental regulations; and tech­niques and procedures for water sampling and monitoring. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of hydrogeologic issues associated with the Hanford area or arid environments Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: Possession of a valid Washington State Geologist license and a Washington State Hydrogeologist specialty license.
