SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Teacher Leader is a career lattice opportunity for the Teacher Leaders to use his/her knowledge to promote an environment of continuous improvement in instruction and student learning. The Teacher Leader is under the general direction of the site principal/ or district supervisor to provide coordination of services for all instructional staff. The Teacher Leaders primary role is to build capacity with their colleagues by providing technical assistance to teachers in regards to Nevada Academic Standards, pedagogical skill, educational research, lesson design, modeling, lesson critique, lesson coaching, classroom management including positive behavior support, and parental engagement efforts. Teacher Leaders also provide direct support to probationary teachers and post-probationary teachers needing assistance meeting the performance standards of the Washoe County School District.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSABILITIES

Demonstrates a high level of understanding and knowledge of the WCSD Teacher Evaluation Rubric including prerequisite relationships and content related pedagogy; possesses outstanding communication skills and is able to apply those skills to provide resources and training for staff members in support of age appropriate learning, skills, knowledge, and cultural heritage. Is aware of the latest educational trends, including recent Nevada legislation reforms and is able to communicate this to staff members; has a firm understanding of the Nevada Academic Content Standards and is able to assist staff members in delivery of instruction in support of Nevada Academic Content Standards.
Demonstrates a high level of understanding and knowledge of the WCSD Teacher Evaluation Rubric. In support of the Teacher Evaluation Rubric, is able to provide guidance and support for a teacher to meet the effective or highly effective rating standard. Supports teachers in building a 21st Century Learning classrooms; provides coaching or mentoring regarding Social and Emotional Learning, Student Learning Objectives, and other initiatives directed at improving instruction. Provides leadership and support in Professional Learning Communities and in the delivery of professional development to the site. Is an active contributor to school improvement, and supports the school site leadership team. Has knowledge and assists in the development and implementation of the School Performance Plan. Will serve as a resource and support the growth of teacher(s). Models continuous learning and reflection and helps colleagues work collaboratively to solve problems, challenges, and conflicts related to shifts in practice. The Teacher Leader will perform other duties as assigned by the principal, which fit within the overall objective of the position.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. Education: Bachelors' Degree in teaching. Master Teacher Leaders need a Master? Degree (or in progress) in education or related field from an accredited university; and/ or current National Board Certification.

AND

2. A minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience, one of these years must be in Washoe County School district, and an Effective or higher rating reflected on their evaluations. Master Teacher Leaders need a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience.

AND

3. Experience:
* Have served in a teacher leadership role in the school or district
* Have served on multiple site and WCSD Committees
* Have facilitated professional learning, or has experience teaching adults

Licenses/Certificates::
The successful candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the District; possession of a valid Nevada teaching certificate.

Learning Strategists are Master Teachers at all WCSD elementary schools who build capacity with their colleagues by providing technical assistance to teachers in regards to understanding the Nevada Literacy Plan, implementing Washoe County School District?s Literacy Plan, and learning strategies, interventions and assessments in the area of K-3 Literacy.

Learning Strategist who are qualified in the Teacher Leadership Pool earn a $7, 000 stipend for the year. Stipends are subject to change, and not PERS eligible.
