  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Self-motivation, initiative and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic.
You will cover a territory that extends from Sacramento to San Jose. Our preference is that you are centrally located (Hayward, Oakland, Vallejo, etc.), but we are open to candidates who live anywhere in the territory. You'll work from your home office and will need safe and reliable transportation (we'll provide a monthly auto stipend). Occasional overnight travel may be required.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you will join a team that includes peers in other territories. While you'll have individual responsibility for this territory, you will partner with the sales team, other internal resources and a local Manufacturer's Representative.

In essence, you will "own" the surfacing business in the territory, including managing a pipeline, coordinating internal and external processes, and motivating, influencing and training customers and other stakeholders. You will focus on national business in education, furniture, healthcare, hospitality, office, residential, retail, transportation and other industries.

Like a specifications rep, you'll establish relationships with and support architects and designers. But the role is even more holistic: you'll also coordinate with fabricators and design/build firms. This way you can ensure strong communications and clear expectations from concept to finished product. You will take over and expand established relationships with key partners, and also focus on bringing in new business. Quick question for you - click here

More specifically, you will:
  • Increase sales at existing customers, maintaining SKU balance and profitability.
  • Actively identify and pursue new projects and customer opportunities.
  • Develop and drive target accounts from inception to maintenance.
  • Develop, maintain and exploit internal and external relationships with key account personnel that result in increased sell-in and sell-through on a local basis.
  • Develop and implement an annual sales plan to achieve overall and category specific growth for all assigned areas.
  • Update and maintain existing samples in architect and design libraries.

  • Maintain a current database of accounts, contacts and library inventories.
  • Provide reports and information to sales team (i.e. market report of information gathered in field).
  • Utilize the reporting tools as appropriate to manage and communicate trends.
  • Actively work to protect or flip a specification where appropriate.
  • Work with outside sales to track, provide local bidding opportunities and close projects in the given market.
  • Actively maintain a training regimen for sales representatives on topics such as product knowledge, new launches, financial acumen and sales process development.

What's in It for You

Professional development
Whatever your background, there will be plenty for you to learn in this broad role. While your peers (internally we call this role Surfacing Specialist) are in locations across the US, we are proactive about promoting teamwork, so you'll share ideas and insights on a regular basis.

High potential territory
You will promote WURTHLAC products in national projects for major corporations in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, the wine country, Sacramento and more. Pionite is not the number one brand in this market, so there will be opportunities to expand market share -- it will take hard work, but if you're the person we're looking for, you enjoy mastering challenges.

Career options
This role will provide plenty of chance for you to showcase your leadership skills, creativity and ability to deliver results -- all characteristics we look for when advancement opportunities arise. We are hiring with an eye to the future as we expand this team, and you might also pursue other career paths within Wurth Louis and Company or the Würth group.

We value our employees
People are the pivotal element of the WURTHLAC model. We are as passionate about our employees as we are about our customers, as evidenced by our low turnover rate. People like working at Wurth Louis and Company.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive salary and quarterly bonus opportunity, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision care plans; a 401(k) plan; prescription drug card; health and dependent care savings accounts; vacation and sick/personal time; tuition reimbursement; and more.

Pictured: WURTHLAC constantly searches for trendsetting and innovative products to make our customers' job easier. You'll be able to offer a diverse array of design options and solutions for any room.

Keys to Success

Success in this role will require you to strike the right balance between an entrepreneurial hunter mentality and an aptitude for building collaborative, trust-based relationships. Sales cycles may last 12 months, so you'll need to be patient and persistent, and practice excellent follow-up habits. You also will need to be flexible; in the morning you may dress to impress as you present to an architectural firm, while in the afternoon you may don coveralls or goggles to spend time in a fabrication shop.

While support always will be just a phone call away, you will need to be a self-starter who takes pride in achieving goals and solving problems autonomously. This will require self-motivation, discipline and resourcefulness. You'll also put that discipline to work as you maintain documentation and provide reports on a regular basis.

In addition, in order to be an outstanding Surfacing Specialist, you will be proactive about:
  • Establishing yourself as a trusted consultant and partner to external contacts.
  • Developing strong relationships with internal partners.
  • Maintaining effective communication among diverse stakeholders.
  • Managing multiple activities and priorities.
  • Managing details while also grasping the bigger picture.
