Physician - Diagnostic Radiologist job Overview:

• Review and interpret routine diagnostic procedures and nuclear medicine studies obtained on DoD beneficiaries from local and/or regional civilian medical centers, Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), including tele-radiography images from numerous sites and Veterans Affairs Hospitals.
• Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.
• Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.
• Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
• Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
• Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
• Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic
• staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.
• Provide advice and opinions upon request by the Chief of Radiology in support of diagnostic interpretations of radiological examinations and procedures as provided in conjunction with patient care.
• Read STAT diagnostic studies and provide verbal/written results of critical values to clinical staff.
• Interpret all routine studies (including plain films, CT, US, mammography, bone densitometry, nuclear medicine and MRI as available at the MTF) and dictate for transcription to CHCS.
• Accomplish fluoroscopic exams and any credentialed special procedures on the daily schedule established at the direction of the Chief, Department of Radiology. Fluoroscopic exams and special procedures require same day interpretation.
• Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF, Federal law or Air Force Instruction.
• Attend and participate in patient care team reports, conferences, professional staff meetings and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to assigned cases and/or performance of services.
• Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the medical treatment facility.
• Perform and provide diagnostic interpretation of diagnostic radiologic imaging examinations, and provide diagnostic consultation related to diagnostic imaging to other members of the medical staff.
• Examinations, procedures, and studies performed will include the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic work that would be performed by a board certified diagnostic radiologist.
• Routine studies such as plain film interpretation, the normal range of fluoroscopic examinations and common imaging procedures, the interpretation of MRI/MRA, CT/CTA, ultrasound, and mammography exams are required.
• Routine radiological procedures including, but not limited to, routine plain film, routine fluoroscopic procedures (barium enema, Upper GI), Ultrasound (vascular, OB and routine abdominal), CT, mammography (including needle localizations and stereotactic biopsies), minor interventional procedures including ultrasound guided biopsy, and CT guided biopsy (no angiography).
• Procedures include, but are not limited to:
  • o Myelogram
  • o Arthrogram
  • o Hysterosalpingogram/Sonohysterogram, interpretation only
  • o Upper GI/Barium Swallow
  • o Percutaneous Biopsy and/or Aspiration
  • o Small Bowel Follow Through/Enteroclysis
  • o Barium Enema (Single and Double contrast)
  • o Mammogram (to Include Needle Localization)
  • o Other (Gall Bladder, Fistulograms, Galactograms)
• Emergency radiological procedures and cases, which include any procedure the health care provider is credentialed to perform, as clinically indicated, outpatient clinical consultations including plain film studies.
• Administrative services, to include: boards, committee meetings, continuing medical education, peer review and quality improvement as deemed necessary the Flight Commander or his/her designee.

Physician - Diagnostic Radiologist job Qualification:

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
• Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.

This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the United States Medical Licensing Examination.

• Internship/Residency: Successful completion of a residency program in Diagnostic Imaging which has been approved by the American College of Radiology and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
• Fellowship: Completion of an ACR Certified radiology fellowship is preferred but not required.
• Board Certification or Eligibility by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology (AOBR).
• BLS
• Demonstrated clinical competency within the past two years
• Continuously employed in diagnostic radiology or in training for 24 months within the past 36 months
• Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Florida.
