Term Assistant Professor/Instructor of Spanish
The George Mason University Department of Modern and Classical Languages invites applicants for one full-time, nontenure-track Term Assistant Professor/Instructor position in Spanish linguistics to begin August 2016. Contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and departmental and program needs. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff. Women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities include 12 credits per semester in language, linguistics and/or culture at the undergraduate level.
Qualifications: * A.B.D. (all but dissertation) is required, Ph.D. is preferred; * Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English is required, as is evidence of excellent teaching ability at all levels of Spanish; * Familiarity with the latest instructional technologies; * Ability to assist in program coordination; and * Commitment to undergraduate education are a plus.
The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Spanish and is actively engaged with other units of the university, including Latin American Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies and Global Affairs. George Mason University is the largest public university in Virginia, and has a culturally and linguistically diverse student body.
