District Director of Planning

Primary Purpose:
Supervise all aspects district-wide and/or campus-specific of educational facilities planning from Site Selection to Pre-Bond Planning to the approval of the Architectural Program to Urban Planning Issues. Serve in organizing, supervising, and performing the work of a professional staff engaged in building and campus space planning, architectural programming, educational and technical specifications, and community and educational staff involvement in planning and design.

At the facilities scale, responsibilities will range from developing new and revised educational specifications, to building space allocation and monitor building utilization for of all campuses facilities. The position will serve to assure that NISD curriculum delivery and educational philosophy is met with the appropriate educational spaces and facilities that reflect the mission, values and learner profile of the District. The position will also serve as the link between Instruction Delivery Officials and the Facilities, Planning & Construction Department, keeping the District moving forward in the advancement and trends of Educational Facilities and Learning.
 
At the regional scale, the Director will contribute with the Facilities, Planning & Construction Department to closely monitor demographic and urban growth. The Director will establish a relationship with the multiple municipal and county jurisdictions’ planning departments making sure NISD’s stakeholder interests, views and voices are heard in all urban and economic development planning issues as well as all thoroughfare and transportation planning efforts. The position will also monitor and maintain relationships with the District’s demographer and numerous developers. Most importantly, the Director will oversee all land entitlement, land use, zoning and platting issues pertaining to land owned by the District and future developments. The position will take charge of zoning changes, variances, platting, and jurisdictional due-diligence, keeping current in all ordinances, building codes and developing standards that affect all District property throughout all the varying jurisdictional authorities.
