Job Description:


Fredonia, State University of New York invites applications for a Stratigrapher/Paleontologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track, beginning Fall 2019. KEY RESPONSBILITIES


Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:


  • Teach courses in Stratigraphy & Paleontology, as well as contributing to our general education course offerings;
  • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
  • Provide academic advisement to students;
  • Participate in Search Committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Ph.D. in geosciences or closely related field by September 1, 2019;
  • Ability to teach Stratigraphy and Paleontology to upper-level majors;
  • Ability to establish a program of research in the candidate's area of expertise;
  • Commitment to diversity and the needs of diverse learners;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Doctoral focus in Stratigraphy or Paleontology
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching to both majors and nonmajors
  • Teaching experience in soft rock Petrology, Stratigraphy, Invertebrate Paleontology, Introductory Geology, and/or low temperature Geochemistry
  • Experience and interest in advising undergraduate student research
  • Experience and interest in experiential learning, including leading field trips
  • Experience and effectiveness with instructional technologies
  • Significant publication in the field
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession
  • Experience with instructional technology;
  • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.


Additional Information:


This is a full-time, term appointed, tenure track position beginning September 1, 2019.
