The Senior Director of Advancement Communications leads the UNCG University Advancement’s communications short and long-term strategies, programs and services. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement and serves, by dotted line, as the communications liaison to University Communications. As a member of the University Advancement Senior Leadership team, the Senior Director develops, executes and supports comprehensive advancement communications plans and projects that increase engagement and achieve advancement objectives with key constituent groups, including alumni, donors and friends. The Senior Director oversees budgets, personnel and resources responsible for producing integrated communications media that inspire giving among a vast array of stakeholders in support of the University’s fundraising campaigns and philanthropic activities. This new position cultivates and stewards relationships with key stakeholders to inspire a culture of creativity, collaboration, and innovation as part of a broader, synchronized, multi-disciplinary team of communications and advancement professionals.

Responsibilities

Identifies, manages and articulates communication strategies and needs to support development, donor relations and alumni engagement efforts, and manages the implementation of these efforts in collaboration with advancement colleagues.

Spearhead case development for the university, relevant academic, student and athletic units for upcoming comprehensive capital campaign.

Oversee annual giving using direct mail, social media, and call center while including new platforms such as 2-way texting and crowdsource fundraising.

Speech writing for university and donor events.

Oversight of the University Advancement web site and all collateral materials, including compelling student and faculty stories.

Collaborate with advancement team and internal stakeholders to announce significant gifts, garnering strategic visibility for current and prospective donors.

Coordinate with University Communications to incorporate fundraising objectives into broader communications and marketing activities, talking points, presentations, reports, social media efforts and other channels.

Create annual philanthropic impact report that reflects the accomplishments and impact of philanthropy while profiling our donors, alumni and recipients.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s preferred.
Minimum 10 years communications experience.
Evidence of successful communications positions of increasing responsibility required.
Significant experience working in communications role(s) that support advancement, development, campaign, and/or alumni activities required.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently with internal/external constituencies and with professionals of varied disciplines to accomplish tasks and projects.
Demonstrated experience managing across multiple communications and marketing channels and media; highly developed skills in communications writing and editing.
Evidence of high energy leadership style with a track record for leading both strategic and tactical communications efforts. 
Self-starter, able to collaborate across the University Advancement division and campus enterprise, experience creating, developing, and implementing new initiatives.
Must be detail oriented, metrics driven, and results oriented with demonstrated analytical skills.

Higher education experience preferred.
