Hardware Engineer
Description
Jacobs is looking for a motivated and safety-conscience hardware engineer to fill a position in beautiful Key West, FL to organize and direct hardware installations across multiple sites.
The successful candidate:
Analyzes and recommends hardware specifications for project-unique or modified commercial hardware
Assists with building simulations of proposed systems and provides hardware throughput analyses to system engineers
Designs and verifies test harnesses/simulated interfaces for all test and integration phases
Prepares Mean-Time-Between-Failure and Mean-Time-To-Repair analyses
Analyzes operational data to identify choke points, failure modes, and other data for design or maintainability improvements
Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used for production; plans, designs and develops electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, optical systems and/or DSP systems. Under general direction, designs and develops equipment, processes and systems that involve data networks, communications, and display. Analyzes equipment specifications and process requirements to conceive a practical design. Determines feasibility from technical and economic perspectives. Coordinates and consults with research engineers or scientists and customer representatives to resolve design problems. Develops and maintains technical procedures, documentation and manuals. Compiles and analyzes operational data and directs tests to establish standard for new designs or modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes. May supervise the work of technicians and technologists who provide technical support.
Qualifications
Considered a recognized authority within the Company. Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 11 years of experience or a Master's with 9 years of experience.
Required:
Ability to climb and rappel working at heights up to 200 feet and have the ability to carry and/or move objects up to 75 lbs.
General understanding of RF infrastructure and HF/VHF/UHF antenna principles
Experience with RF, fiber-optic, and network fault-isolation/test equipment
Broad experience across antenna technologies, test equipment, cable termination/repair, and system hardware integration
Must be willing to support flexible work hours to align with customer operational schedule
Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field or equivalent experience
Must be fully cleared and be able to attain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) access
Desired Skillset:
Oversee and perform installation of radios, antennas, RF/Fiber cable, and system hardware at customer sites
Perform Site Surveys, document findings, update documentation and submit to customer for review/ approval
Fault Isolate local and remote issues with repair electronics, computers, systems equipment, networks using appropriate test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, TDR’s, or software tools)
Safety conscious while performing maintenance activities
COMSEC custodian experience
Have the ability to read and use technical schematics, drawings and manuals along with other technical materials to resolve complex problems.
Have strong oral/written communication skills and comfortable with providing site tours or presentations
Preferred Qualities:
Antenna, RF, and Fiber-optic cable/connector fault-isolation and repair experience
Basic network fault-isolation experience
COMSEC Custodian
Field Engineering
Clearance Requirement:
This position requires a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, based on current background investigation (SBI), as well as the favorable completion of polygraph. Clearance and polygraph processing will be completed by the U.S. Government. Factors considered for a U.S. Government Security Clearance include, but are not limited to:

I have 3 years of experience designing and developing hardware for various electronic devices.
As Hardware Engineers, we design and develop new hardware components such as processors, circuit boards, and memory cards. We test multiple hardware components individually and in tandem with external computer systems to complete functionality and performance tests on the final product. We also design and update hardware for computer-related products such as routers and smart devices while creating and maintaining adequate documentation. We perform in-depth market research using various techniques such as market surveys and search engines to ensure hardware compatibility with the current market needs.
