The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Lead Cache Developer.

The Lead Cache Developer will provide technical and team leadership through coaching and mentoring a small team focused on designing and developing the software, interfaces and API tooling to integrate our laboratory information system with the state-of-the-art testing and reporting platforms supporting our clinical, educational and research missions.

The Team Lead is responsible for guiding team development efforts toward successful project delivery. Duties and responsibilities of the lead encompass coaching/mentoring, provide technical leadership, maintain software quality by establishing best practices, support learning through peer review of solution designs and associated code, and collaborate with the team to document requirements, and to design, develop, install, configure and support Intersystems Cache solutions to meet the departments integration needs. Project work will include native Cache Objectscript reports and application development, API tooling to enable external applications with data access to the Cache based LIS, Intersystem IRIS configuration, and related tasks. Stakeholders include Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Faculty and Staff, UW Medicine Clinicians and Information Technology Services teams, and external customers from a broad range of hospital, clinic and public health settings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Lead for full lifecycle design, development, documentation, testing and support of Cache based solutions:
• Guide team development efforts towards successful project delivery.
• Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship.
• Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits aligned with best practices for Cache/IRIS development, software source management, etc
• Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code.
• Designs efficient high-quality API routines, creates efficient and logical program code, and writes clear and concise system descriptions that meet project requirements.
• Determines impact to existing custom software, document configuration, estimate request efforts, and build changes needed.
• Evaluates business requirements and processes to provide possible solutions and accurate estimates for development efforts.
• Builds, configures, and deploys Cache-based solutions supporting the department's reference lab business, research, and ongoing maintenance of existing capabilities.
• Ensures completion and high quality of deliverables, such as design documentation, build audits, testing plans and scripts, training curriculum, and activation plans.
• Exercises discretion and independent judgment on workflow design, problem-solving and other projects that support business needs.
• Maintains current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training/seminars and reading-related material.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Team/Laboratory Immersion:
• Work with data science, analytics and interface/integration teams to understand current and future requirements for laboratory testing, result distribution and order interfaces.
• Understand broad scope of application development, current state of local infrastructure, and limitations present throughout the Department's laboratories.
• Build process diagrams with intent of identifying streamlined solutions and workflows that support improved quality, efficiency and throughput.

Infrastructure engineering/integration:
• Adapt and apply divisional solutions for change control, code repository, versioning and automated deployment for Cache based solutions.
• Assist in installation, configuration and management of our Intersystems Cache/IRIS environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Biology or related field.
• 5 years progressive development and team leadership experience with Intersystems IRIS and Cache.

Additional Requirements:
• Expert knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, especially build and execution of REST API in the Intersystems framework.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on listening and questioning skills.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Exceptional customer service orientation.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
• Expertise working in a Sunquest and Epic operating environment preferred.
• Working knowledge of XML desired.
• Working knowledge of HL7 FHIR and HL7 CDA.
