Overall Summary

Member Services Specialist will identify, screen and assist patients with the enrollment process for insurance programs offered at Bay Area Community Health. Complete enrollment and eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal, HealthPac, CalFresh, and other BACH programs and community resources. Provide advocacy and direct assistance for current and potential BACH patients as it relates to health care access. Obtain and share information about community resources and programs with patients. Work a flexible schedule to include some weekends.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Identify, screen, and assist patients with enrollment who are eligible for Medi-Cal, Covered CA, HealthPac, CalFresh and other programs at BACH using One-E-App.
  • Schedule appointment with social services if needed.
  • Register new patient basic information into EPIC practice management system.
  • Provide direct assistance and advocacy for BACH current and potential patients to gain access to health care coverage through various means of information.
  • Procure and disseminate timely information about other community resources and programs to clinic patients and maintain information supplies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to, and understanding of, BACH's Behaviors for Success and GUEST (Customer Service Model), by modeling customer service excellence in all internal and external relationships and in the performance of all duties and responsibilities.
  • Provide accurate member services enrollment data and monthly reports as required.
  • Assist in various duties to include, but not limited to patient enrollment and eligibility issues and follow-up, preparation of informational and marketing materials, phone room and reception duties, translate for patients/clinic staff, and serve as liaison for on site Medi-Cal program.
  • Work a flexible schedule to include weekends.
  • Call patients assigned to BACH and schedule new patient appointment


Secondary Responsibilities
  • Attend workshops, training and meetings as needed, and as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required education, experience, training
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six months medical eligibility experience, experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be substituted.
  • Six months customer service experience.
  • Bilingual - Spanish


Preferred education, experience, training
  • Two years medical eligibility clerk experience.
  • Experience in community or public health.
  • Knowledge of enrollment programs and other community health care coverage programs.
  • I-2-I, One-E-APP, EPIC or other medical practice management program,


Certifications/Licenses:
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Physical Demands:

This position requires:
  • Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical/clinical office environment.
  • Regular bending and stretching; and lifting.
  • Manual dexterity used to include, but not limited to, standard office equipment, and computer keyboard.
  • Traveling to work sites including some exposure to outside elements.
  • Reading and writing in order to review records for accuracy.
