Chief of the Generalist OB/GYN Division

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California San Francisco is seeking a board certified ObGyn Generalist at the level of Professor or Associate Professor to lead the Generalist Obstetrics, Gynecology and Gynecologic Subspecialties (OGGS) Division. The Division is comprised of generalists, research faculty and family planning. It is highly involved in resident and medical student education in the Department, School of Medicine and UCSF Health System.

Members of the Division provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to women working with allied health professionals across five ambulatory practice sites. Specialty care includes uterine fibroids, sexual health, pelvic pain, vulvar abnormalities, family planning, preconception counseling and cervical dysplasia. Inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures are performed at the UCSF/Mission Bay, UCSF/Parnassus, UCSF/Mount Zion, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital campuses. The OGGS Division is the home for our academic hospitalist and fellowship program which strives to be a national leader in maternal safety and the experience of care by providing evidence-based, socially-conscious inpatient obstetric and gynecologic services.

The Division's Research interests are in uterine fibroids, incontinence, family planning, diabetes and other women's health issues. This past year the Division launched the first General Obstetrics & Gynecology Research Fellowship in the country. This two year fellowship is designed to train and prepare general obstetrician gynecologists to pursue a clinical research career in an academic department.
Clinical investigation includes a broad range of content and methods with human subjects such as patient-oriented, translational, epidemiologic, behavioral, outcomes, implementation or health services research.

Candidates must be board certified in Ob/Gyn at the Associate Professor/Professor level and possess a valid California Medical license at the time of hire. Five years of leadership experience either at the division level or major program area is required as well as a minimum of ten years academic medical center experience.

It is preferred that candidates have demonstrated capability, leadership and experience in providing evidence-based and patient-centered ob-gyn care and in collaborating and coordinating care in clinical teams that enhance the patient experience with a commitment to excellence in clinical care, patient safety, patient satisfaction, education and research.

The search also includes a recommendation to hold a five-year term as the Grace Marie Waldrop, MD Endowed Chair in Obstetrics & Gynecology to the Dean of the School of Medicine. This is an administrative chair for the OGGS Division Chief.
