Job Description

About this position

SeeScan is seeking out a talented, motivated, and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior RF Analog Engineer. In this position, you will play a key role in the design and verification of electrical systems that power our market-leading pipe inspection and utility locating equipment. You will bring your experience, education, and passion for design and troubleshooting to help us create optimized solutions that make our products work seamlessly. Our ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic design environment.

Our company culture

Working at SeeScan is unlike working for other companies of our size. While we have the stability of a larger company—we’ve been in business for nearly 40 years and sell our products worldwide—the SeeScan environment feels like a smaller, tight-knit community. Absent of typical corporate culture, we care more about what you do than what you are called, and we want you to share our mission of constantly improving the way we do things. We’ll give you the tools and resources you need to succeed, and we want you to show us how it’s done!

What we’re looking for

Across our organization, we’re looking for people who want to solve big challenges to make the world a better place. Whether you’re designing the latest tech, building our products on the production floor, or keeping our business running and profitable, we want people who approach problems with a can-do attitude and who are eager to be part of a team.

Our goal is to create the best products in our industries and continue our trend of sustainable growth – not to line shareholders’ pockets. That means we’re interested in hiring people who are eager to work somewhere long-term and who share our values of continuous learning, community, and fairness.

Skills and experience

Our ideal candidate is conversant and able to develop products using the following skills:

Low level, low noise, low frequency (10Hz – 1MHz) signals

  • Multi-channel magnetic field receiving antennas (magnetic loop). E field shielding and balance techniques
  • Characteristics of magnetic fields
  • Low noise wide dynamic range amplifiers for this frequency range
  • Effective shielding techniques; near DC (sensors) to several GHz

Hi power signal generation in the 1Hz -1MHz region; and at 13.56MHz

  • Class A, B, C, D, E and Hi-Q resonant stages from 10mW to 30W over a wide range of load impedances
  • Switching (buck, boost, Sepic, Flyback) power supplies that are efficient and generate very low noise
  • Sonde design techniques
  • Protection against “hot line” (when our transmitters accidentally get connected to the AC mains)
  • FCC part 15, and “RED” requirements
  • FCC Human exposure limits

Datacom

  • Familiarity with ASK, BPSK, FSK, QPSK, QAM (circular and square), OFDM and when to apply them in our application
  • Bandwidth required for each type of modulation

  • Analog and digital filters and when to apply each
  • Error detection and correction techniques

RF design

  • GNSS: frequencies, antenna design, polarization, phase center, pattern optimization. LNA and filter design for the various GNSS services. Protection against self noise.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, BLE antenna design – 2 and 5 GHz
  • Impedance matching techniques
  • Characteristics of transmission lines

Circuit Design

  • Effective (low cost, low power, high performance, compact) analog circuit design
  • Familiar with Spice modelling. (LTSpice, PSpice etc)
  • Familiar with Matlab modelling. (Matlab, Octave)
  • Familiar with Antenna Modelling (EZNec, Comsol)
  • Familiarity with PCB signal integrity modelling

  • Effect of component tolerances, temperature and environment on your design

  • 5+ years minimum in RF and Analog design
  • Hands-on experience in schematic capture; Altium experience a plus

Education

  • BS in EE, CE, Physics or related

We offer

  • A position within an established company that has over 30 years of experience
  • The stability of a larger company, but with the feel of a smaller, tight-knit community
