Job Description

RACAIA Architecture & Interior Design is looking for a sharp, detail-oriented and ambitious Job Captain, Technical for our Downtown Los Angeles, CA office.

The most ideal candidate will be comfortable with flexibly managing multiple phases of multiple project types, and is open to the ongoing process of supporting steady growth for our firm. Working under the guidance of a senior project team member, this person will be responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, or several small projects, including the investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client's needs.

The ideal candidate for this position would have a thorough and well-rounded record of projects for clients across the building spectrum. This individual would also be thoughtful, honest, exacting, and especially detail-oriented. They would both understand clients’ changing needs as they come, understand the process of analyzing construction documents for design quality, constructability and detail completeness, and have a strong grasp of constructability, and how projects are built. As RACAIA projects include corporate retail, schools, civic, restaurants/hospitality and healthcare, this person would be flexible and considerate of each client’s needs.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical Responsibilities, including maintaining quality across a wide span of possible commercial, government, non-profit and institutional projects
  • CAD And Revit Drafting – set up, maintain and detailed review of CDs, including as-built/record drawings, schematics, and construction documentation for permitting
  • Site Surveys – short notice travel, site measurements and notes, check for accessibility/ADA compliance, reporting to client
  • Permitting – jurisdictional research through application and permit tracking
  • Budget - Assist with budget work planning, contracts and proposals
  • Construction Observation – site visits, weekly conference calls, submittal review, RFI review, ASIs and PRs
  • Proven experience maintaining project milestone with complex projects involving MEP, Structural and Civil Engineering systems coordination
  • Deliver projects on schedule, within budget, meeting design intent and client vision/goals, and at the required level of quality
  • Very strong experience presenting to and working with clients and stakeholders, and a high degree of comfortability explaining concepts to clients

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • DSA Experience highly preferred
  • Proficient in building codes, understanding different product types and how the code determines how the buildings are constructed.
  • Strong skills in production of construction drawings, start to finish
  • Excellent problem solver and independent thinker with good listening skills and strong follow through
  • Excellent graphic, communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
  • Able to effectively and positively provide direction and lead technical work

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & CERTIFICATION:

  • 5+ years' experience, with at least 1 year as a technical lead required
  • Commitment to their own professional growth; preferably to obtaining licensure as an architect.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without any restrictions or visa sponsorship.
