Job Description

George Fox University announces a tenure track faculty position in the School of Theology and Honors Program in Biblical Studies (with an emphasis in Old Testament), to begin in August 2022. This person would teach courses in biblical studies and biblical languages (with an emphasis on the Old Testament/Hebrew, and expertise in the theological interpretation of the Bible) in the School of Theology as well as courses in the University's Honors Program. The Honors Program at GFU offers a Great Books curriculum that serves as a selective general education track within the university. All great texts courses in Honors are co-moderated by two professors in a Socratic-seminar format.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Candidate will teach 24 credits total per year: 12 credits of biblical studies (ideally both Old Testament Survey and Biblical Hebrew) and 12 credits of Great Books seminars within the honors program.
  • Candidate will participate in the broader academic life of the university and normal tenure review process
  • Ability to develop and sustain an ongoing program of relevant scholarship.
  • Participation in the work of the School of Theology and the university, including advising, mentoring, and serving on university committees as needed.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Biblical Studies, Old Testament preferred.
  • Experience with Great Books education is desirable.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential.
  • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
