Job Opportunity - Systems Engineer II

MTM Robotics is looking for a qualified individual to fill an opening for Systems Engineer II. MTM Robotics designs, manufactures, and integrates automated assembly and control systems for research and industrial manufacturing applications in the aerospace industry. Our tools are used in the direct manufacture of large-scale aerospace structures. We have a dynamic, talented and collaborative engineering team and want those who are energized by contributing to eloquent, ingenious yet simple solutions to solve our customer's toughest problems.

The job duties of a Systems Engineer II would be:

  • Leadership
    • Mentor younger engineers and offer constructive guidance on designs
    • Track personal deliverables and commitment dates, ensure milestone targets are met
    • Provide regular updates to upper management and surface resource issues in time to accommodate hiring
  • Project Manage and Document
    • Analyze project requests, proposals, and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, costs, and production time of robotic and automated assembly products.
    • Provide insightful feedback on results of analysis to improve the outcome of product deliverable, schedule and/or costs.
    • Generate engineering documents to produce prototypes and production units.
    • Contribute to technical reports or other documentation, such as, handbooks or bulletins, for use by engineering staff, management, or customers.
  • Electrical and Controls System Design
    • Research, select, and apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, or electronic communication.
    • Create, review, and maintain electrical design documentation such as schematic diagrams and layout documents.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve electromechanical issues. This includes work with common tools such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Software Engineering
    • Develop architecture and software for embedded systems, HMIs, and peripherals
    • Understand, develop, and debug low-level software routines as well as system-wide software architectures.
    • Perform application programming on specialized platforms with applications in automation and robotics.
  • Mechanical Engineering
    • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
    • Make basic drawings and have the capacity to prototype for proof of concept validation.
    • Work directly with in-house machinist to ensure engineering designs are scheduled for completion and properly fabricated.
  • Commissioning
    • Perform system setup and commissioning of company products for deployment at customer sites or at company's workshop.
    • Perform on-site installations, system setups, troubleshooting and limited repairs onsite as well as in the office.
    • Create documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
    • Provide direct phone and email support for new and difficult applications
    • Serve as liaison with customers to resolve problems and inquiries
    • Provide customer on-site and in office trainings for operators and maintenance personnel

The ideal candidate would have:

  • A degree (preferably masters) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of the following platforms: Windows 7 desktop and Linux embedded products.
  • Knowledge of the following areas within embedded system development: circuit board development and troubleshooting, commercial microprocessor platforms and architectures (e.g. ARM), and memory management.
  • Knowledge of C/C++ and (optionally) .NET C#.
  • Strong skills or aptitude with motor tuning procedures for many classes of motors, especially DC brushless servos and associated PID tuning for point-to-point and free-running applications. This includes the ability to troubleshoot poorly performing motor systems and apply solutions through improved tuning parameters or techniques.
  • Proficiency with machine shop tools: drill press, lathe, sanders and band saw.
  • The knowledge and interpersonal capability to working within an engineering development team that spans multiple disciplines (electrical, software, mechanical, systems engineering).
  • Professional, consistent, calm, clear, and confident oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent skills with typical productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
  • The ability to work independently to achieve required goals with minimal oversight.
  • The ability to manage and resolve conflict between MTM employees and customers, balancing business and customer needs while maintaining relationships.
  • 2-3 years of systems engineering or related experience
  • 3-5 years of broad engineering experience (ME, EE, Software, Systems, Applications).
