Our ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT has multiple outstanding opportunity for a ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN/TRAINEE.
SCHEDULE: FULL TIME (100% FTE, 40 HOURS PER WEEK) NIGHT SHIFT, however trainings for the first month will be during the day.
The technician performs histotechnology procedures such as processing, embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by Pathologists.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN/TRAINEE will:
- Cut and embed various types of biopsy and surgical tissues
- Perform simple immunohistochemistry procedures
- Perform special stains via automated stainer and or manual staining
- Prepare laboratory solutions as needed in procedures
- Assist in Fine Needle Aspiration collection
- Use, care, and maintain histology instruments
- Adhere to quality control and quality assurance requirements and perform low to medium complexity research projects
- Independently monitor reagent use and prepare appropriate volumes needed, record daily instrument temperatures and perform preventative maintenance on instruments according to prescribed protocols
Successfully navigate the network computer to accession clinical and research cases, order simple lab tests, review work lists and provide case status to inquiring pathologists and clinicians
REQUIREMENTS:
ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN TRAINEE:
High school graduation AND 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biological and physical science
OR equivalent education/experience.
ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN:
Certified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America, or:
Equivalent education/experience.
