Job Description

Southern California United Food & Commercial Workers Unions & Food Employers Joint Benefit Funds Administration, LLC (The Funds) were created more than 40 years ago as a result of collective bargaining between the Southern California Retail Food Employers and the Southern California UFCW Union Locals. The Funds serve in excess of 100,000 participants! There are two Funds, the Pension Fund and the Benefit Fund--through which member retirement and health and welfare benefits are provided.

The Funds Office is currently searching for a supportive Medical Customer Service Representative, to join our growing Medical Customer Service Department.  In this member facing role, you will be responsible for answering telephonic, email and walk-in requests from members regarding their medical claims.  This position is subject to Collective Bargaining.

General Responsibilities:

  • Answer all general telephone calls including walk-in requests and answer questions, concerns including resolve complaints
  • Respond to written correspondence regarding claims questions or complaints
  • Research and respond to eligibility requests with accurate information in accordance with internal department turn-around times
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner that answers questions and concerns
  • Collaborate with internal teams to test updates to internal systems including updates to documentation
  • Meet or exceed department quality and production standards
  • Successful completion of special projects

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Certification in Medical Billing or related area, Associate Degree or 4-year degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 1 year prior experience in a customer service, medical billing or medical coding role highly desired 
  • Strong understanding of the concepts of exceptional customer service required 
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office including Outlook, Word and Excel 
  • Able to professionally communicate with plan members, Union Representatives and internal stakeholders
  • Able to build, foster and maintain professional relationships across the organization
  • Able to provide coaching, training and constructive feedback to others
